Willingdon Island
The project involved producing a research document focusing on the history of Willingdon Island.
The unique geography and coastline of Kerala has brought in an abundance of influences from across the globe. With trade being the primary concern under every rule, Kerala has always been open to versatile views and cultural impacts. With each section of the state being influenced differently - either by local rulers, tradesmen or colonizers, Kerala presents a variety of cultural nuances that need to be celebrated.
With evidence of trade dating back centuries, the impact of an Island like Willingdon on the history of Cochin - socially, culturally and through art and architecture, is monumental.
With a focus on creation of awareness, the research document on the history of Willingdon Island supports the proposal for a interactive exhibit that will help emphasize the significance of the unique architecture seen on the island and its contribution to Kochi heritage .
